Lots 39 through 69 were sold to the public by the town Commisioners, while lots 1 through 38 and 72 were sold by Leroy Pope. The first deeds were dated 1815 although some of the lots had been transferred before then because Pope, though he purchased the lots in 1810, did not receive a a title until 1815.
